Work

I’ve been working in the twin realms of film and advertising since about 1999. The exact date is forever lost in antiquity but this was how I started.

I studied film, media and photography at Deakin University in Melbourne Victoria. The campus was small. An ex high school in the suburbs called Rusden Campus.

I had arrived with my father, who insisted to see the school and so we did. Hung out with Timothy Loke, a friend from church who was attending Uni Melbourne and eventually introduced me to city living.

Rusden was an eye opener for me. Walking from the cold class to the cafeteria, once would pass dance students stretching, drama students rehearsing, film students lugging camera gear, photography buffs coming out of the labs to look at their negatives, others giving out condoms and this is amoungst the the odd goth, shoeless surfer or weed smoking hippie. It was great.

There weren’t as much asians and I liked it that way. Of course there were the usual Singaporeans, Malaysians, an odd Thai, Myanmarese and HongKonger. Oh and Taiwanese. But collectively, we did’nt number more than 50.

Zipping over to the main campus at Burwood, it was far more cosmopolitan of course. That was were I went for my minor subjects in Politics and community development. And yes, they had better cafeterias and food.
